About

Since my assignment from God in 1989 to serve here, my wife Phyllis and I have been privileged to serve God’s people. Our roles here have been to seek the lost at any cost, and teach the found to be heaven-bound. We are in the Master’s service.

In 1873, Reverend T. Simms, Mr. Snellgrove and a group of descendants of former slaves gathered at or about our present site to organize a church according to state law. A group of African American people assembled and conducted a religious service under a makeshift bush harbor with Reverend F. Burr serving as pastor. This same type shelter was used for several years with the Reverend Gamble serving as pastor. The first deacon to serve was Deacon Freeman Dobbs.

In 1878, the first permanent structure was erected a few feet from the site of the bush harbor. The first service conducted in this building was in 1879 Reverend John Moore served as pastor. In 1881, Reverend A. J. Beavers was called as pastor and served a total of 33 years. In 1913, a storm partially destroyed the sanctuary. The church was blessed to rebuild within the same year.

Others who served were:

Rev. E. D. Harris                       Rev. J. A. Moreland

Rev. N. W. Moreland                 Rev. W. F. James

Rev. J. H. Scott                           Rev. W. H.

Rev. T. M. Moore                      Rev. J. W. Davis

In 1939, Reverend F. L. Page was called as pastor. In 1960, we began to build a new church a few feet from the original church building. In June 1964, this building in which we now worship was completed and dedicated. Reverend F. L. Page served from 1939-1979. Reverend J. E. Coverson was called as pastor in 1980. Reverend served until November 1982. On August 11, 1983, Reverend Roy Wade was called to pastor. Reverend Wade served until 1985. On February 2, 1986, Reverend M. L. Green, Jr. was called as pastor. He served until September 18, 1988. On October 1, 1989, Reverend Regynal Eppinger was called as pastor. In 1990, fifteen help ministries and six outreach ministries were added to include a clothes bank. We thank God for the completion of phase 1 of our multi-purpose worship facility.
